A set (also called an expansion or chapter) in Disney Lorcana is a curated collection of new cards released periodically to expand the game. Each set introduces new glimmers (cards), often from new Disney franchises, along with new gameplay mechanics and a continuation of the ongoing Lorcana story.

Overview

Lorcana follows a regular release schedule of approximately four sets per year, roughly one every three to four months.[1] Each set consists of 204 main cards (except Wilds Unknown which had 242), plus a number of Enchanted variant cards (typically 6 or 12) and sometimes additional promotional cards.

Sets are the primary way the game expands, adding new strategies, characters, and lore.

Set structure

A typical Lorcana set includes:

  • 204 base cards – Including common, uncommon, rare, super rare, and legendary cards.
  • Enchanted cards – Ultra‑rare alternate art variants, typically 6 per set (12 in The First Chapter).
  • Foil versions – Every base card has a foil version.
  • New mechanics – Most sets introduce at least one new keyword or gameplay mechanic.
  • Story continuation – Each set advances the narrative of the Lorcana realm.

Release format

Sets are released in two waves (except for simultaneous worldwide releases starting with Fabled):

  • Local game stores (LGS) – Prerelease events and early sales.
  • Mass retail – Approximately two weeks later (pre‑Fabled sets).

Set rotation

Starting with Fabled (Set 9), the Core Constructed format implemented set rotation. Only sets from Fabled onward are legal in Core Constructed, with older sets rotating out annually.[2] Other formats (like Unlimited) still allow all sets.
