Into the Inklands is the third set of the Disney Lorcana trading card game. It was released by Ravensburger on February 23, 2024 for local game stores, and on March 8, 2024 for mass retail.[1] The set introduces the Location card type and expands the game's world with new characters and mechanics.

The set consists of 204 cards, including 6 Enchanted variants. It continues the story following the Floodborn transformation, as Illumineers explore the mysterious Inklands.

Story

After the Flood that created the Floodborn, the world of Lorcana is forever changed. New lands emerge from the ink – strange, magical places known as the Inklands. Illumineers venture into these uncharted territories, discovering locations filled with treasure, danger, and forgotten lore. Meanwhile, Ursula's influence spreads, and other villains begin to make their moves.

New mechanics

Locations

Locations are a new card type in Into the Inklands. A Location card represents a place (e.g., Thebes, Agrabah Marketplace, Queen of Hearts' Castle). Locations are played like other cards, paying their Ink cost. Once in play, they provide ongoing benefits and can be "entered" by characters for additional effects.

Location cards have:

  • Location cost – The Ink cost to play the Location.
  • Lore value – Some Locations generate Lore automatically at the start of each turn.
  • Move cost – The Ink cost for a character to move to that Location.
  • Effect – A passive or activated ability.

Moving a character to a Location may grant bonuses, such as extra Lore when questing, protection from challenges, or special abilities.

New characters

This set introduces characters from:

  • DuckTales – Scrooge McDuck, Launchpad McQuack, Magica De Spell
  • Treasure Planet – Jim Hawkins, John Silver
  • 101 Dalmatians – Cruella de Vil
  • TaleSpin – Baloo, Kit Cloudkicker

Products

Into the Inklands was available in the following product formats:

  • Booster packs – 12 random cards, including one foil.
  • Booster boxes – 24 packs.
  • Starter decks – Two decks (Amethyst/Steel and Ruby/Sapphire).[2]
  • Gift set – Includes 4 booster packs, 2 oversized foil cards (Scrooge McDuck and Launchpad McQuay), and a storage box.
  • Illumineer's Trove – 8 packs, two deck boxes, player's guide, storage box.

Starter decks

Two starter decks were released with this set:

  • Amethyst/Steel – Focuses on control and location synergy.
  • Ruby/Sapphire – Focuses on ramping and high‑cost characters.[3]

Notable cards

  • Scrooge McDuck – Richest Duck in the World (Legendary, gains Lore when you play Items)
  • Jim Hawkins – Cabin Boy (Location synergy)
  • Thebes – The Big Olive (Location that gives characters +1 Lore when questing)
  • Magica De Spell – Beagle Babysitter (Villain, interacts with opponent's deck)

Reception

Into the Inklands was praised for introducing Locations, which added strategic depth to the game. Critics noted that Locations opened new deck-building possibilities, though some felt the set had fewer high-power cards than previous sets. The DuckTales characters were particularly well‑received by fans.[4]

Trivia

  • This is the first Lorcana set to include characters from Disney Afternoon television shows (DuckTales, TaleSpin).
  • The set name "Into the Inklands" was a working title that remained final.
  • Locations were originally planned for The First Chapter but were delayed to allow more development time.
