Ryan Miller is the co‑creator, Senior Brand Manager, and co‑designer of the gameplay for the Disney Lorcana trading card game.[1][2]
Biography
As a child, Miller would sometimes visit Disneyland with his grandmother.[1][3] He later noted the impressive immersion of the Disneyland experience he felt between the ages of 7 and 8.[1][3]
Miller started playing Magic: The Gathering soon after its initial release in 1993.[1] He considers this the moment he decided he wanted to work for Wizards of the Coast. After spending time in the Army, he moved to Seattle in 1998 and began working as a game judge for Magic.[1] From there, he eventually became a member of Research & Development.
For a time he left Wizards of the Coast to create a card game based on Warhammer 40,000.[1] Afterwards, he returned to R&D and was employed by Wizards of the Coast for nearly a decade, during which he started designing actual Magic cards.[1]
Miller later took on a freelancing role and created a The Princess Bride game that was published by Ravensburger – his first interaction with the company.[1]
Around 2020, Miller came to work on Disney Lorcana at the prompting of his peer Steve Warner.[1] He attended D23 Expo 2022 where the game was first promoted.[1]
