Evasive is a keyword in Disney Lorcana that makes a character difficult to target in challenges. A character with Evasive can only be challenged by other characters that also have Evasive. This ability was introduced in the very first set, The First Chapter, and has appeared across multiple ink colors.
Rules
The official rules for Evasive state: "Only characters with Evasive can challenge this character."[1]
This means:
- An opponent cannot use a character without Evasive to challenge a character with Evasive.
- A character with Evasive can challenge any character (whether Evasive or not).
- Evasive does not protect against actions, items, or abilities that deal damage or banish characters directly – only against challenges.
Evasive is a static ability; it does not need to be activated.
Strategy
Evasive characters are excellent for questing because they are difficult to remove through challenges. An opponent must either:
- Have their own Evasive characters to challenge, or
- Use non‑challenge removal (such as Dragon Fire or Be Prepared).
Because of this, Evasive characters often generate Lore safely over multiple turns. However, they tend to have lower Strength or Willpower for their cost compared to non‑Evasive characters, as the keyword is a significant advantage.
Cards with Evasive
Ruby
Ruby has the most Evasive characters, fitting its aggressive playstyle:
- Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor (The First Chapter)
- Maleficent – Monstrous Dragon (The First Chapter)
- Aladdin – Prince Ali (Rise of the Floodborn)
- Scar – Vengeful Lion (Azurite Sea)
Amethyst
Amethyst Evasive characters often have additional card draw or spell synergy:
- Genie – On the Job (The First Chapter)
- Madam Mim – Fox (Rise of the Floodborn)
- Yzma – Conniving Chemist (Azurite Sea)
Emerald
Emerald uses Evasive for disruptive or aggro strategies:
- Flynn Rider – Charming Rogue (The First Chapter)
- Kuzco – Emporer's New Groove (Into the Inklands)
Other colors
Steel and Amber have very few Evasive characters. Sapphire has none as of Wilds Unknown.
Trivia
- Evasive was one of the first keywords revealed for Lorcana, appearing on Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor at D23 Expo 2022.
- In early design documents, Evasive was called "Flying" but was changed to better fit the ink/magic theme.[2]
- There is no card that grants Evasive to other characters, but some items (like Magic Carpet) give Evasive temporarily.
