Lore is the victory resource in Disney Lorcana. The goal of each game is to be the first player to collect 20 Lore. Lore is primarily gained by sending characters on quests.
How to gain Lore
- Quests – During your main phase, you may exert (turn sideways) any of your ready characters to "quest". Each character has a Lore value printed on its card. You gain that many Lore points. For example, a character with 2 gives you 2 Lore when it quests.
- Card effects – Some actions, items, or character abilities may grant Lore directly.
- Locations – Certain locations provide Lore at the start of each turn.
How to lose Lore
Lore is never lost or stolen by default. However, some cards (primarily in Emerald) can cause opponents to lose Lore or steal Lore from them.
Lore tracker
Each player tracks their Lore using a Lore tracker token (included in starter decks) or a dice. The tracker typically goes from 0 to 20 (or higher, as there is no maximum Lore).
Rules
- Lore is not spent; it is accumulated.
- If both players reach 20 Lore at the same time (e.g., due to simultaneous effects), the game continues until the tie is broken.
- Effects that say "opponent loses 1 Lore" reduce that opponent’s total.
Lore in the story
In the lore (story) of Lorcana, Illumineers travel to the Great Illuminary to recover lost "Lore fragments" – pieces of magical stories. By sending glimmers on quests, they retrieve these fragments, which are the in‑universe explanation for the Lore points.
Trivia
- The Lore icon is a glowing, scroll‑like symbol.
- No card currently grants more than 4 Lore at once (as of Wilds Unknown).
- The highest Lore value on a single character is 5 (e.g., Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor has 2; some later cards have 3 or 4).
