Steel is one of the six ink colors in Disney Lorcana. It is represented by a gray/silver droplet icon. Steel focuses on defense, damage prevention, resilient characters, and dealing direct damage to opposing characters. Steel decks aim to outlast opponents through durability and removal.

Philosophy and playstyle

Steel is the color of strength, protection, and resilience. In gameplay terms, Steel excels at:

  • Resist – Reduces damage taken by characters.
  • Bodyguard – Steel shares Bodyguard with Amber, protecting key characters.
  • Direct damage – Steel has many actions and abilities that deal damage to characters without challenging.
  • High willpower – Steel characters often have high Willpower, surviving multiple hits.
  • Challenger synergy – Some Steel cards gain bonuses when challenging.

Steel is often paired with Amber for defensive midrange decks, with Sapphire for ramp‑into‑big‑threats, or with Ruby for aggressive challenge‑based decks.

Signature keywords

  • Resist – A character with Resist takes reduced damage from any source. Resist +1 means take 1 less damage.
  • Bodyguard – Shared with Amber, forces opponents to challenge this character first when exerted.

Notable Steel cards

Card name Set Rarity Notes
Mulan – Elite Archer The First Chapter Legendary Deals damage to characters when played.
Captain Hook – Forceful Duelist The First Chapter Rare Gains Strength when challenging.
Prince Phillip – Dragon Slayer The First Chapter Legendary Resist +2, deals damage to dragons.
Goofy – Knight for a Day The First Chapter Uncommon Bodyguard, protects other characters.
Grab Your Sword The First Chapter Rare (Song) Deals 2 damage to all opposing characters.

Steel in the metagame

Steel has been a versatile color since launch. Steel/Amber “Bodyguard” decks protect key engines, while Steel/Sapphire ramp decks deploy large threats early. Steel also appears in aggressive “challenge” decks paired with Ruby, using direct damage to clear the board.

Trivia

  • Steel’s ink droplet icon is a stylized gray drop with a metallic sheen.
  • The color’s philosophy is inspired by armor and the emotion of courage.
  • Steel has the most direct damage spells of any ink color.
