Fabled is the ninth set of the Disney Lorcana trading card game. It was released by Ravensburger on September 5, 2025, as the first set to have a **worldwide simultaneous release**, with no gap between local game store and mass retail availability.[1] The set introduces two new rarities – Iconic and Epic – and marks the first rotation of the Core Constructed format, removing the first four sets (The First Chapter through Ursula's Return) from standard play.[2]

The set consists of 204 cards, including 12 Enchanted cards, 12 Epic cards, and 2 Iconic cards.[3] Fabled features characters from A Goofy Movie, The Princess and the Frog, and other Disney classics, celebrating the idea of legendary stories and characters that have become "fabled" over time.

Story

After the dramatic events of Reign of Jafar, the realm of Lorcana enters a period of reflection and celebration. The Great Illuminary calls upon Illumineers to gather the most legendary glimmers – those whose stories have become fabled across the multiverse. This set focuses on iconic moments and characters from Disney history, with an emphasis on legacy and myth.

The storyline follows Goofy and his son Max on a road trip through the Inklands, inspired by A Goofy Movie. Along the way, they meet other legendary characters, including Tiana (from The Princess and the Frog), who is opening a new restaurant in the magical realm.[4]

New mechanics and features

Iconic rarity

Iconic is a new rarity tier above Enchanted. Iconic cards feature full‑art, extended borders, and unique foil treatments. They are extremely rare, appearing approximately once per case (six booster boxes). Each Iconic card also has a special ability that references classic Disney movie moments.[4]

The two Iconic cards in Fabled are:

  • Goofy – Perfect Cast (featuring Goofy fishing)
  • Tiana – Almost There (featuring Tiana in her restaurant uniform)

Epic rarity

Epic is a new rarity between Super Rare and Legendary. Epic cards have a distinct bronze border and appear roughly once every two booster boxes. They often feature pivotal story moments or ensemble scenes.[3]

Set rotation

With the release of Fabled, the Core Constructed format officially rotates out the first four sets (The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, and Ursula's Return). Only sets from Shimmering Skies onward are legal in Core Constructed, plus Fabled itself. This change was announced to keep the format fresh and reduce the barrier to entry for new players.[2]

Fabled introduces new characters and new versions of classic favorites:

  • A Goofy Movie – Goofy, Max Goof, Roxanne, Pete, Powerline (the pop star).
  • The Princess and the Frog – Tiana, Prince Naveen, Dr. Facilier, Louis the alligator, Mama Odie.
  • The Jungle Book – Baloo, King Louie, Mowgli, Shere Khan.
  • Sleeping Beauty – Maleficent (dragon form), Prince Phillip, Flora, Fauna, Merryweather.
  • Cinderella – Cinderella (ball gown version), Lady Tremaine, the King.

Products

Fabled is available in the following product formats:[5]

  • Booster packs – 12 random cards, including one foil.
  • Booster boxes – 24 packs.
  • Starter decks – Two decks (Amber/Amethyst and Ruby/Sapphire).

Reception

Fabled was praised for its nostalgic character choices, especially the inclusion of A Goofy Movie, which had long been requested by fans. The new Iconic and Epic rarities were seen as exciting additions for collectors, though some players expressed concern about the increased rarity tiers.[7] The set rotation was generally welcomed as necessary for the long‑term health of the competitive scene.

Trivia

  • Fabled is the first set where booster packs include a guaranteed foil card in every pack (previously it was one foil per pack, but now the foil slot is separate from the rare slot).[3]
  • The set includes a special "Hidden Mickey" Easter egg on the Goofy – Perfect Cast Iconic card – a small Mickey silhouette in the water ripples.
  • Powerline's song "Stand Out" is a real song recorded for the film, and the card's flavor text quotes its lyrics.
