Whispers in the Well is the tenth set of the Disney Lorcana trading card game. It was released by Ravensburger for prerelease in local game stores on November 7, 2025, and had a full global release on November 14, 2025.[1] The set marks a return to the main storyline of Lorcana after a break with Fabled and introduces a mystery-themed adventure featuring new mechanics and the long-awaited debut of Gargoyles and The Black Cauldron.[2]
The set contains 242 cards in total, comprising 204 base cards, 18 Epic cards, 18 Enchanted cards, and two Iconic cards: Ariel – Ethereal Voice and Hades – Looking for a Deal.[3]
Story
After the events of Reign of Jafar and the celebration of Fabled, the Illumineers are called to investigate a new mystery. Strange, incomplete glimmers known as Whispers have begun appearing in the Inkwell Caverns beneath the Great Illuminary.[1] These spectral beings, summoned from torn or damaged Lorebook pages, are not fully formed and seem to be connected to a series of eerie occurrences.[4]
Players join a team of detectives, including Judy Hopps – On the Case and Nick Wilde, to follow the clues and uncover the source of the Whispers.[1] Along the way, they encounter characters from Gargoyles, The Black Cauldron, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, as well as the new Ink Champions representing the six Sensational Six.[1][5]
New mechanics and features
Whisper classification
Whispers are a new classification of glimmer introduced in this set. They are described as “strange specters that are not fully formed,” summoned from damaged Lorebook pages.[1] Whisper cards have a distinct visual style featuring lush gold borders and ghostly artwork.[6]
Boost
Boost is the signature mechanic of Whispers in the Well. To Boost a character (typically a Whisper), a player places a card from the top of their deck face-down beneath that character. This unlocks new abilities, increases stats, or triggers powerful effects.[1][7] The mechanic creates a strategic choice between immediate tempo and long-term investment, as boosted Whispers grow stronger over time.[8]
Stone by Day (Gargoyles ability)
Characters from Gargoyles share a new static ability called Stone by Day. The ability reads: “If you have 3 or more cards in your hand, this character can’t ready.”[9] This reflects the gargoyles’ nature of turning to stone during the day, rewarding players who manage their hand size efficiently.[8]
Anti-Evasive keyword
Some Gargoyle glimmers are able to challenge Evasive characters, breaking one of Lorcana’s long‑standing combat rules. Until now, only other Evasive characters could attack Evasive ones. This addition gives Steel decks new tactical options and helps balance the metagame against Evasive‑heavy strategies.[8]
Detectives
A new Detective classification appears on characters such as Judy Hopps – On the Case and Basil. Detective characters work especially well as a team, bolstering each other’s abilities, providing extra card draws, and making it easier to bring more Detectives into play.[9][7]
Ink Champions
For the first time in Lorcana, cards directly reference specific ink types. The six “Sensational Six” characters (Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Goofy) serve as champions for the six ink types, with abilities tied to the unique characteristics of each color.[9] For example, Daisy Duck – Sapphire Champion gives other Sapphire characters Resist +1.[9]
New franchises
Whispers in the Well introduces several Disney properties to Lorcana for the first time:[1][2]
- Gargoyles – The cult 1990s animated series makes its Lorcana debut with characters such as Demona, Goliath, and the Stone by Day ability.
- The Black Cauldron – The 1985 dark fantasy film joins the game, featuring The Horned King, the titular Black Cauldron, and other characters.
- The Legend of Sleepy Hollow – Characters including the Headless Horseman, Ichabod Crane, and Katrina Van Tassel appear.[4]
- Zootopia – Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde play a central role as detectives in the set’s story.
