The First Chapter is the debut set of the Disney Lorcana trading card game. It was released by Ravensburger on August 18, 2023 for local game stores, and on September 1, 2023 for mass retail.[1] The set introduces players to the core mechanics of the game, including the six Ink colors and the first wave of characters from Disney's animated films.
The First Chapter consists of 204 main set cards, each available in foil and non-foil versions, plus 12 ultra-rare Enchanted variant cards. There are 216 cards in total when including the Enchanted variants.[2]
Release and availability
The set was announced in August 2022 at the D23 Expo, where attendees received a promotional card of Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor.[3] The set was released in two waves:
- August 18, 2023 – Local game stores (LGS)
- September 1, 2023 – Mass retail outlets
Due to high demand, the set experienced significant supply shortages at launch, leading to inflated secondary market prices.[2]

- Booster packs (12 randomized cards)
- Booster boxes (24 packs)
- Starter decks (three decks: Amber/Amethyst, Emerald/Ruby, Sapphire/Steel)
- Gift set (featuring Mulan and Hades)
- Illumineer's Trove (eight packs, two deck boxes, player's guide, storage box)

Trivia
- The First Chapter is the only set to have 12 Enchanted cards; subsequent sets have 6.
- The set introduced the concept of Storyborn characters (identical to their film counterparts) and Floodborn characters (alternate versions).
- The set does not contain any Pixar characters.
